Cinnamon Rolls and Morning Shopping.

December 18, 2006 / by whereabouts

Last night my son comes home after spending the day before with his father at his house. Usually, he is a bummer and a total crab butt after being with the man but yesterday he was different.

He came home and was a loaded bubble. First, he began to tell me that he is no longer drinking that protein shake because the "Cretin" in it makes him crabby. I asked if he just learned that or if it was common knowledge or what? He explained that it is common knowledge for those in the know. Well, that means that I am not in the know because I didn't know! Then he tells me that he and his two friends went to the movie and saw, "Appocolipto." I may have that spelled or pronounced incorrectly. Anyway, he starts telling me about the movie. He explains that there is this guy, and he is a king, well, not really a king, but a, well, a king (he couldn't think of anything else). He said it was based in Central America prior to the time of Columbus. I said, "Do you means he is a Tribal Leader?" He says,' Yeah. That's it." Then proceeds to tell me about the movie.

"The King," he says, "Well, you know what I am talking about. This guy, the leader, he's trying to save his family. His wife is pregnant..." He continues on and gives me all the bloody and gory details. Every scene he describes is full of blood, gore, and guts, or beheading and/or dismemberment. Nice. Anyway, he's going and going and going on about this movie explaining every detail of each scene. I pick up a quarter and hand it to him. He says, "What's this for?" "You were running low," I say. He laughs.

We chat aimlessly. He says he is not hungry. He heads upstairs and shortly after I go up to his room for some reason and we end up sitting in there chatting. I ask him about Christmas morning and what he wants to do. He hesitates, so I say, "Do you want your dad to come over like usual to open gifts?" He says, "Well, yeah, I guess." I say, "Okay, fine, then that is what we'll do." I think he's afraid to tell me that he WANTS his dad around. He can't tell his father that he likes to be with his mother so he feels I will react the same way when the situation arises. We discuss other things such as recent local politics, global warming hypothesis and what our friend has to say about that, and other worldly topics. I've always included my son in on discussions and he actively takes part in them. I guess that has a lot to do with his intellect and ability to talk and debate with adults in a respectable, well educated manner. After sometime, I retreat to my room to do some research before going to bed.

This morning, I get up and head downstairs to make coffee. The everyday ritual begins. In the process of making coffee, I notice that my son did not get up to get ready for school so I intercom him from the kitchen. He doesn't answer the page. So, I call his cell phone. He answers it but is not a happy camper. I tell him its time to get up and get in the shower and I will make cinnamon rolls. Five minutes later, he's still not up so I call him again. He's angry now and being all crabby yells that he is getting up. Two minutes later, I call him again. This time he doesn't answer me and slams the phone down but he gets up. He's slamming doors acting like a fool. He knows that if he pushes me and doesn't get up, I'm not going to call him. I'm not going to "try" to get him up again. I will simply get an ice cold glass of water and throw it on him. Those are the rules. Get up or get freaking soaked with freezing cold water. Hey, he has a choice!

He is in a much better mood after taking a shower. Upon coming downstairs, he asks me to make him peanut butter and jelly today for lunch. He doesn't want a meat sandwich. He eats 3 cinnamon rolls and then grabs his lunch and leaves for school.

I check the blog and respond to Emails and web requests before getting in the shower to get ready. My sister and I are going shopping together.

I am not one of those women who likes to linger in the mall. No way, that is not me. I like to get in, beeline to specific places, get what I want and need and then promptly leave. We arrived at the mall about 10:00 AM. Today was my first shopping day as I always wait until the last minute to shop. Actually, I am a few days early this year! Anyway, by 11:30 I had finished most of my shopping and was done for the day. Yeah, baby, that's my kind of progress! We ate lunch, took her 4 year old to the play pit and watched the other play mongrels roam the perimeter and destroy the remainder of the premises before packing it up and heading home.

I had to stop at the pet supply store on the way home but other than that, that was it for my shopping. It is now almost 4:15 PM and I am ready for a small glass of wine to enjoy before my son gets home from school. Today is a baseball day so he will not be home until 5:30 or 6:00 PM. I think I'll make Chicken Kiev and long grain rice with a green vegetable for dinner. Maybe a spinach salad; my son loves spinach.

It is a happy and pleasant day today; the weather is warm and sunny, the animals are all sweet and playful, and I'm thinking WINE! :)

Have a great evening everyone!
