First Hummingbird to the Garden

June 27, 2007 / by whereabouts

Today, I saw my first ruby-throated hummingbird in the garden on the Trumpet Vines. Twas a female. I love these guys and my Red Salvia is beginning to get large enough for them so soon I will have them in the front yard as well. Yeah!~

No, these I did not but have in the past though not with a digital camera so I don't have them on the computer to share. My next camera will be the new Canon Rebel Digital. I have all the lenses form my original Rebel which are interchangeable with the new digital. With my 400mm zoom/macro lens, I can get a hummer to look frozen in place.

I feed the birds at my parents everyday. We have a woodpecker that lives there and demands your attention-it's so cute.I haven't seen any hummingbirds around, just lots of doves, crows, bluebirds and of course "Woody".Lots of squirrels too!!!!!!!!!![WINK][HEART]Laurie

[THUMBUP] Everybody loves hummingbirds and they are so easy to attract to a feeder. Great photos.
  • whereabouts said 1 years ago
No feeders for me! I attract them through botanical methods - Red Salvia, Scarlet Monarda, Tree Mallow, Thistle Blooms, and Trumpet Vines. The feeders, especially sugar water colored red, is not very healthy for them for it is void of nutrients. [WINK][HEART]
